Butterfly release to mark hospice anniversary

Northfield Hospice will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a butterfly release at a special commemorative event Tuesday, August 21, 6:30 p.m., at the Long Term Care Center patio at Northfield Hospital.

The hospice program was created in 1982 to provide a circle of care for terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice emphasizes helping patients live well and with dignity until death comes, whether it is in their homes or in a care facility. Over time, the Northfield Hospice team of physicians, nurses, social workers, pastors and volunteers has served over 1,000 patients and their families. Read more »

Hospital to open medical clinic in Elko New Market

Northfield Hospital & Clinics is opening a primary care medical clinic in Elko New Market August 6.  

Called FamilyHealth Medical Clinic, it will be located at 321 Main Street and staffed by Mary Ann Scheid, M.D., and Jay Charles, P.A., They will provide Family Medicine services five days a week to patients of all ages. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Three preview events will be held next week: Tuesday, July 31, and Thursday, Aug. 2, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 4, 9 a.m. to noon. People will have an opportunity to see the new facility and meet the staff.

Dr. Kathleen G. Hopkins joins FamilyHealth

   Kathleen G. Hopkins, D.O., has joined the family medicine practice at FamilyHealth Medical Clinic in Northfield.
   Dr. Kathleen G. Hopkins will see a full range of patients of all ages. Her areas of professional interest include nutrition, preventive health, pediatrics, women’s health, osteopathic manipulation and management of chronic conditions. Her physician services are provided by Mayo Clinic Health System.
   Dr. Kathleen G. Hopkins received her medical degree from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in Family Medicine through the University of Minnesota Medical School, practicing with Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Her background includes graduate work in immunology at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and work in Emergency Medicine.
    Her personal philosophy of medicine revolves around three basic tenets: a humanistic approach to her work, an attitude of service and a holistic view of the patient.
    “I chose to specialize in family medicine because it provided the best opportunity to focus my practice on the whole person,” Dr. Kathleen G. Hopkins said.
