President and CEO Mark Henke passes away

Mark HenkeIt is with great sadness that we report that Mark Henke, President and CEO of Northfield Hospital & Clinics, died August 31 while undergoing surgery for a recently diagnosed renal cancer. He was 53.

His life will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church in Northfield, Minn. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, five children and a son-in-law.

Mark came to Northfield Hospital & Clinics in April of 2010. In his short time here, he proved to be an excellent leader and mentor. He was a strategic thinker, a creative problem solver and a champion for Northfield Hospital & Clinics and its status as an independent, community-owned facility.

A visionary leader, he initiated the clinical expansion of our Cancer Care & Infusion Center and our Sleep Center, a project that was completed earlier this year. He opened a primary care clinic in Elko New Market, acquired new space for Emergency Medical Services, initiated plans to expand the hospital’s endoscopy practice and created new leadership opportunities for physicians.

His positive energy, his belief in his staff, his agile mind, his playful sense of humor and his commitment to expanding medical services locally will be sorely missed. We are grateful for the time we had together and wish him safe passage.
