Steve Underdahl, President and Chief Executive Officer, has overall responsibility for the operation and development of Northfield Hospital & Clinics.

Steve came to Northfield in June of 2013 from Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea and Austin, where he held the position of Vice President of Operations. Prior to that, he served as hospital administrator for the Albert Lea hospital from 1999 to 2012. He has a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Bethel College. His background includes work in the area of strategic planning, new construction, marketing and chemical dependency treatment.


Jeff Meland, M.D.
Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

In his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Meland serves as an executive resource to the hospital medical staff’s Medical Executive Committee and its subcommittees. He oversees the Quality Improvement and Clinical Informatics departments. In addition, Dr. Meland serves as Medical Director of the Emergency Department and continues to practice there.

Dr. Meland is a graduate of the University of North Dakota Medical School. He did his residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He practiced family medicine in Northfield for nine years before joining Northfield Hospital & Clinics in the Emergency Department. He is a past president of Northfield Hospital & Clinics Medical Staff and formerly the Medical Director for Emergency Medical Services at the hospital.

Jerome EhnJerry Ehn
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Jerry Ehn, Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for the operational metrics, tools and processes for Northfield Hospital & Clinics.

Jerry came to Northfield after working for many years in the Mayo Clinic Health System, most recently as a Vice President of Operations.  He  holds a masters’ degree in Organization Leadership and a nursing home administrator’s license. He brings with him a balance of operational and strategic leadership experience.

Clinic Services Administrator

Kathleen oversees our five primary care clinics in Northfield, Lonsdale, Lakeville, Farmington and Elko/New Market;  our three specialty clinics: Women’s Health Clinic, Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic, and Northfield Eye Physicians & Surgeons; and Center for Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation.

She has worked in a number of clinical and administrative roles. Most recently she served as Ancillary Services Administrator for Northfield Hospital & Clinics.  Prior to that she served at Owatonna Hospital.  Kathleen is known for her collaborative management style.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winona State University and a MBA from the University of St. Thomas.

Vicki Stevens
Administrator for Human Resources and Support Operations

Vicki Stevens oversees Human Resources and six other ancillary services provided by Northfield Hospital & Clinics. They are: Anesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Nutrition Services, Pharmacy and Social Services.

Vicki holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas and a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Northfield Hospital & Clinics, she served in a variety of administrative positions with the Fairview system over a 17-year period.

Tammy HayesTammy Hayes
Chief Nurse Executive/Hospital & LTCC Administrator

Tammy is responsible for nursing services at Northfield Hospital, including the Medical/Surgical and Critical Care units, the First Touch Birth Center, Emergency Department, Cancer Care & Infusion Center, Surgery Department, Northfield Home Care & Hospice and the Long Term Care Center. She has served as the Long TermCare Center’s Licensed Admnistrator since 2010.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica and a Masters of Science in Health Services Administration from Cardinal Stritch University.Tammy has held a number of nursing leadership roles in neonatal and pediatric care and has provided leadership for a broad range of quality initiatives. Most recently, she worked as the clinical nurse manager of the neonatal intensive care unit at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Laura PetersonLaura Peterson
In-House Legal Counsel and Compliance Officer

Laura provides in-house legal counsel and oversees risk management, compliance, credentialing, and contract .She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Washington University in St. Louis, a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago, and a Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University. Laura formerly practiced law in the areas of medical malpractice and employment law and has worked in the health insurance industry.
