Emergency Services
The fastest way to the hospital in an emergency is to dial 911
Emergency Department
Physicians staff our emergency department 24 hours a day, and all nurses are certified in trauma care.
Surveys confirm that 98% of our emergency patients are being seen by a physician within an hour of arrival.
Northfield Hospital is just 20 minutes from Lakeville and Farmington. For residents of those and other nearby communities, a short drive south to Northfield may mean a much shorter wait for care.
Northfield Hospital uses Minneapolis Heart Institute’s Level One Heart Attack Protocol, giving our patients timely access to a fully-equipped cardiac hospital. It puts patients from Northfield with certain critical symptoms in the express lane to the procedures and care available only at cardiac centers like Abbott Northwestern.
Day or night, each patient receives prompt, personalized attention from a staff that considers patient-centered care a top priority.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Northfield Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services provides 24-hour coverage for a service area that extends outside of Northfield from Nerstrand on the southeast to Elko New Market on the northwest. Its paramedics and EMTs bring advance emergency care to the scene of an accident or health crisis. They are trained in establishing airways, administering medication for pain or to counteract allergic reactions, starting IVs and doing sophisticated medical monitoring. Our crews are in radio contact with an Emergency Room physician at all times.
The department operates three ambulances. Two are in service at all times. One covers the immediate Northfield area. The other is in service west of I-35, 16 hours a day and is on-call the other eight hours.
