Rights of a Hospice Volunteer

  1. A volunteer has the right to be respected as part of the total care team and as a person.
  2. A volunteer has the right to be assigned a worthwhile service through which not only the patient but also the volunteer may find fulfillment.
  3. A volunteer has the right to assume only work roles for which paid staff would not ordinarily be hired.
  4. A volunteer has the right to have adequate training, supervision, and counsel on the role that he or she is expected to perform.
  5. A volunteer has the right to be given a free voice in expressing to the Volunteer Coordinator or any other supervisor his or her feelings about specific situations encountered during the performance of his/her volunteer services.
  6. A volunteer has the right to be appreciated and recognized for the loving care that he/she provides for the patient and the patient’s family.
