Clinical Rotations Details and Application

Students are placed in a supervised learning environment in which they put skills developed in the classroom into practice. This application is for individuals who are interested in Northfield Hospital and Clinics Clinical Rotation Program. Due to the limited number of spaces in our program, we cannot guarantee a spot for every applicant.

Who can apply to the program?

Students enrolled in dedicated professional programs that need to fulfill a clinical rotation requirement to complete their degree. Some departments only accept students from specific schools. Please see the chart below to see if your school qualifies BEFORE applying.

When will we offer the program?

Clinical rotation opportunities are offered in the summer, fall, and spring.

  • Spring semester applications due by November 30th
  • Summer semester applications due by April 30th
  • Fall semester applications due by July 31st

What does an applicant need to do to be eligible for the program?

  1. Complete the online application.

  2. Complete Northfield Hospital & Clinics Clinical Agreement.

  3. Send documentation of the following items:

Cleared Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Check.

Certificate of personal liability insurance.

Any professional license(s) or certifications.

Immunizations: Applicants are required to submit the following immunizations/immunity documentation.

Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) 2 doses of MMR - OR - positive lab titers showing immunity for mumps, measles, and rubella 
Tuberculosis (TB) Negative 2 step TST test  - OR - negative blood assay M. tuberculosis (BAMT) test in their medical history with annual negative  TST or BAMT.Observers with a positive TST test must have a negative chest x-ray at least 12 months8 after conversion and negative symptoms.
Hepatitis B Completed 3 shot series, or positive antibody titer - OR - 2 of the 3 shots completed with series in progress - OR - an observer may document their decision to decline to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B
Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) Updated
Annual seasonal flu Updated



What departments offer clinical rotations?

NHC Departments Schools & Programs Accepted
Anesthesiology Only accepts students from St. Mary’s University

Any accredited medical assistant or LPN program

Diagnostic Imaging Only accepts students from Argosy University
Emergency Medical Services Only accepts students from South Central College,  Inver Hills Community College and Hennepin County Technical College
Homecare/Hospice Any accredited nursing/social work program 
Hospital Nursing Any accredited nursing program
Lab Only accepts students from South Central College, University of Minnesota and Dakota County Technical College
Occupational Therapy Any accredited occupational program;
Orthopedics Any accredited orthopedic program
Pharmacy Only accepts students from University of Minnesota
Physical Therapy  Only accepts students from University of Minnesota, St. Scholastica, Mayo and Concordia
Respiratory Therapy Only accepts students from Mayo, St. Catherine’s, St. Paul
Social Services Any accredited social work program
Surgical Services Any accredited CST programs
Speech Therapy Any accredited communications disorder graduate program
