Emergency Medical Technician Certification Courses

These scenario-based courses will prepare the student to become an Emergency Medical Technician. Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) practical and written exams. The curriculum is based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration National EMS Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician (2009). The program follows an interactive course of study that includes lecture, practical skills, and field internship. This course is designed to be primarily scenario based with hands-on training in simulated emergency medical and traumatic calls.  College credits are not offered, but participants are encouraged to check with their educational institution for possible credit allowances. EMT certification courses are offered in multiple formats to meet the unique needs of our student population. 

 

Clinical Rotation (Field Internship) Requirements: 

All EMT students are subject to additional requirements to attend the mandatory clinical experience to meet education standards. Students must successfully pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Check ($9.10 additional fingerprinting fee that must be paid directly to MDHS by the student). Students must provide written verfication of required standard healthcare provider immunizations, including, COVID-19 vaccination, and annual Influenza vaccination. Students may apply for limited vaccination expemtion requests per NH+C policy. Our program requires the participant to be 16 years of age or older on the last day of class. 

 

Emergency Medical Technician Initial Certification Courses:

  • EMT Initial Course (EMT Initial): New! 
    • This course is designed for the student with little or no previous EMS experience. This approximately 144 hour course will prepare the entry-level student to become an Emergency Medical Technician. Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) practical and written exams. This course follows the same NREMT and NHTSA Educational standards in a standard format.This course is designed for the student with little or no previous EMS experience. 
  • EMT Trainee Opportunity for the Summer EMT Initial Course! 
    • We are hiring 6 positions for our new EMT Trainee program! Candidates will be hired as a part-time EMT trainee for our program beginning in June and will be paid to attend all classes and work as a trainee in the EMS department for 12 hours per week. Candidates must be 18 and be able to obtain a driver’s license by the end of the program. Emergency Medical Technician Bridge Courses:

  • EMT Completion Course (EMR to EMT):
    • This part-time, evening course is designed for students who hold current Emergency Medical Responder (First Responder) certification. This unique, approximately 100 hour course, will prepare the current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) to become an Emergency Medical Technician. This course is designed for the part-time student as part 2 of 2 of the EMR-to-EMT program. Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) practical and written exams. This course follows the same NREMT and NHTSA Educational standards in an abridged format.
  • Healthcare Professional to EMT Course (HCP2EMT):  New!
    • This course is designed for students who hold current Healthcare Professional Licensure (LPN, RN, RT, MD, DO, PA, NP). This custom, approximately 56 hour course, will prepare the current Healthcare Professional (LPN, RN, RT, MD, DO, PA, NP) to become an Emergency Medical Technician. Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) practical and written exams. This course is presented in a three-part format, with online pre-course component (3 weeks), in-classroom accelerated portion (7 days), and clincial rotation (available up to 6 months, or until minimum EMS patient contact requirements are met). Clinical rotations can be arranged through NH+C EMS or contracted with your local EMS provider. This course follows the same NREMT and NHTSA Educational standards in an abridged format.

2022-2023 Tuition Fee Schedule:

  • EMT Initial Course: $1,750.00 $1,399.00 Summer 2022 Discount plus $9.10 Background Study Fee
  • EMT Completion Course: $1,150.00 plus $9.10 Background Study Fee
  • Healthcare Provider to EMT Course: $1,000 plus $9.10 Background Study Fee

Tuition fees include eTextbook and course materials. Printed textbooks require an additional $100.00 charge. Textbook format is selected during registration.
