Clinic and Birth Center Expansions
Plans are moving forward to expand both the Northfield Clinic and the Birth Center in 2019. The Northfield Clinic has outgrown its space, with new providers and more patients for family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine and specialty care. We need more space for these growing services, and any new services. The Birth Center now welcomes about 550 babies a year. The current space would be great if babies came on a steady schedule two or three at a time – but babies come when they’re ready, and more space will let us accommodate more births at the same time.

Northfield Hospital connected two people across a century
When Margit Fredrickson turned 100, her son Karl thought it would be nice to celebrate with someone who shares her birthday. So he called the Birth Center at Northfield Hospital that day to ask if any new babies had arrived.
That’s how Margit met Waylon Bouma, just hours after he was born.
“The nurse said, ‘Ihave an unusual request for you’ and asked if Margit could visit,” says Amy Bouma, Waylon’s mom. “We said ‘Yes, absolutely, that would be awesome.’”
