Plans are moving forward to expand both the Northfield Clinic and the Birth Center in 2019. The Northfield Clinic has outgrown its space, with new providers and more patients for family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine and specialty care. We need more space for these growing services, and any new services. The Birth Center now welcomes about 550 babies a year. The current space would be great if babies came on a steady schedule two or three at a time – but babies come when they’re ready, and more space will let us accommodate more births at the same time.

Getting enough sleep improves students’ academic and athletic performance, overall health, and quality of life.
For teens, getting enough sleep isn’t just a matter of how much . . . it’s when they sleep.
Organ donation saves and heals lives. Hospitals play a delicate role as a bridge between donors and recipients.
LifeSource honored Northfield Hospital with an Excellence in Donation Award for facilitating organ and tissue donation every time the opportunity arose in 2017. By fostering a culture of donation, we can create something positive in the moment of loss when a loved one dies. One person can save and heal up to 75 lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.
Northfield Hospital + Clinics honored 101 employees – with a combined 1,134 years of service – at its annual Length of Service Awards.
Each year, NH+C celebrates staff anniversaries for those hitting a five-year milestone – from five years (40 employees) to 35 and 40 years (one employee each).
The Long Term Care Center earned a 5-star rating – the most stars possible – for 2018 from CMS, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
This is the seventh year in a row that the LTCC has received a 5-star rating. CMS scores nursing homes on health inspections; staffing; and quality of resident care (based on 11 physical and clinical care measures).
Emergencies are scary. Brian Edwards, Chief of Emergency Medical Services, talks about what takes place when you call 911 . . . and how you can help first responders help you.
What happens when I call 911?

It’s a sure sign of Spring: The annual Northfield Hospital Auxiliary Book Fair. The 2018 Book Fair will take place April 24-28 at the Northfield Ice Arena on Highway 3.
This is the year that the Book Fair will hit $1 million in total sales.
Now in its 57th year, the Book Fair has raised a total of $987,190 since 1961 – including a record $65,810 in sales last year.
When Margit Fredrickson turned 100, her son Karl thought it would be nice to celebrate with someone who shares her birthday. So he called the Birth Center at Northfield Hospital that day to ask if any new babies had arrived.
That’s how Margit met Waylon Bouma, just hours after he was born.
“The nurse said, ‘Ihave an unusual request for you’ and asked if Margit could visit,” says Amy Bouma, Waylon’s mom. “We said ‘Yes, absolutely, that would be awesome.’”
NH+C’s Surgical Services team and St. Olaf’s student-run Volunteer Network registered 80 willing donors with Be The Match, an international registry that connects patients who need a bone marrow transplant to donors with compatible bone marrow.
For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, bone marrow transplant is the cure. The trick is finding the right donor. The more individuals registered with Be The Match, the better the chances of finding a match.
Construction is now underway to expand downtown healthcare resources in the Sterling Pharmacy building on Division Street at 7th Street.
The building will house a new Express Care Clinic for Northfield Hospital + Clinics, delivering care for common illnesses with no appointment necessary in a convenient location and at convenient hours, including evenings and weekends.
