It’s a sure sign of Spring: The annual Northfield Hospital Auxiliary Book Fair. The 2019 Book Fair will take place April 23-27 at the Northfield Ice Arena on Highway 3.
This Northfield tradition got its humble start 58 years ago on the back porch of an Auxiliary member’s home. (At the time, members thought they might collect enough books to do the sale once.)
Now in its 58th year, the Book Fair has raised a total of $1,000,000 since 1961 – including a record $67,532 in sales last year.
Northfield Hospital + Clinics introduces a free class to help individuals understand Advance Care Planning and get a start on their own plan.
Advance Care Planning is the process of thinking about and communicating your health care wishes, in case illness or injury prevents you from decision-making.
Plans are moving forward to expand both the Northfield Clinic and the Birth Center in 2019. The Northfield Clinic has outgrown its space, with new providers and more patients for family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine and specialty care. We need more space for these growing services, and any new services. The Birth Center now welcomes about 550 babies a year. The current space would be great if babies came on a steady schedule two or three at a time – but babies come when they’re ready, and more space will let us accommodate more births at the same time.
Dr. Kraushaar loves the laughter and curiosity of kids. She’s a pediatric specialist who cares for children and adolescents in the Northfield Clinic, starting August 7.
“I enjoy working with families to provide the best possible care for their children during all the stages of growth and development,” Dr. Kraushaar says. “The best part of my job is working with children. There is always laughter and curiosity.”
It’s a return to Northfield for Dr. Kraushaar, who is a graduate of St. Olaf College.
Northfield Hospital + Clinics honored 101 employees – with a combined 1,134 years of service – at its annual Length of Service Awards.
Each year, NH+C celebrates staff anniversaries for those hitting a five-year milestone – from five years (40 employees) to 35 and 40 years (one employee each).
The Long Term Care Center earned a 5-star rating – the most stars possible – for 2018 from CMS, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
This is the seventh year in a row that the LTCC has received a 5-star rating. CMS scores nursing homes on health inspections; staffing; and quality of resident care (based on 11 physical and clinical care measures).

When Margit Fredrickson turned 100, her son Karl thought it would be nice to celebrate with someone who shares her birthday. So he called the Birth Center at Northfield Hospital that day to ask if any new babies had arrived.
That’s how Margit met Waylon Bouma, just hours after he was born.
“The nurse said, ‘Ihave an unusual request for you’ and asked if Margit could visit,” says Amy Bouma, Waylon’s mom. “We said ‘Yes, absolutely, that would be awesome.’”
