What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?
Registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN) are highly-skilled, degreed professionals with extensive training in food and nutrition. RDNs have completed coursework approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and have passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. They also participate in ongoing training and education to ensure their skills and knowledge keep pace with emerging research and new treatment approaches. All that education and experience means you can feel confident you’re receiving the most advanced nutritional care and guidance for optimal results.
Medical Nutrition Therapy
Medical nutrition therapy is aimed at helping people with specific medical conditions develop a plan to help them stay as healthy as possible and to prevent or lessen complications associated with their condition. We provide medical nutrition therapy for people dealing with a wide array of conditions, including:
- Weight Management
- Eating Disorders
- Kidney Disease
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Celiac Disease
- Gastrointestinal Diseases
- Liver Disease
- Food Allergies
How Does Medical Nutrition Therapy Work?
We will tailor a program to match your health concerns as well as your specific nutrition needs, with a keen awareness of personal food preferences and habits. During each session, you'll have a chance to discuss your concerns and your progress, and to obtain guidance that will help you improve your diet and meet your nutrition goals. The first session is typically an hour, with subsequent follow-up sessions ranging from 30 minutes to an hour as needed.
Do I Need a Referral?
Before scheduling an appointment, you'll need to obtain a referral from your provider that includes a medical diagnosis. The referral can be faxed to 507-646-1392. Will my insurance cover the cost of my medical nutrition therapy? Many insurance plans will cover your visit to see a registered dietitian nutritionist. Check with your plan and your provider to see if you are covered.
