NH+C welcomes OB/GYN Allison McCarter, MD

Dr. Allison (Ali) McCarter likes the community feel of rural medicine.

Dr. McCarter has joined the Women’s Health Center at Northfield Hospital + Clinics, providing OB/GYN care in the clinic and delivering babies in the Birth Center.

As an OB/GYN, “it is an honor to walk alongside my patients through some of the most intimate, challenging and impactful moments of their lives,” she says.

Dr. McCarter grew up in Buffalo, Minnesota – about the same size as Northfield. “I always liked the way that the town felt big enough that there were still new people to meet, and at the same time, it felt familiar enough that if you needed something, there was somewhere to turn,” she says.

Dr. McCarter chose the medical school at U of M Duluth for its rural focus, including a year of rural training in Red Wing. Her residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester “gave me the opportunity to learn from experts in their field, and bring a broad perspective to a smaller community practice,” she says.
