Community volunteers play a vital role in supporting our patients, staff, and visitors while strengthening our connection to the Northfield community.
Due to high volume of applicants, we are temporarily closing our applications.
Who Can Apply?
Community volunteering is open to individuals who are interested in supporting Northfield Hospital + Clinics outside of a student academic program. Volunteer opportunities vary by department and schedule availability. This application is not for St. Olaf or Carleton students; the student applications closed on 7/19. DO NOT APPLY to volunteer under this option.
Community Volunteer Application Process
Step 1: Apply Online
- Temporarily closed to high volume of applicants.
Step 2: Contact from Volunteer Services
- The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to:
- Schedule an orientation
- Begin the screening process
Step 3: Orientation & PreScreening
Attend a 1.5 hour in-person meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator, which includes:
- Review of volunteer policies and expectations
- Overview of hospital practices
Required screenings include:
- Minnesota background check and fingerprinting
- Volunteer Pre-placement Health Evaluation with Employee Health Services, including:
- TB screening
- Immunization review
- Annual influenza vaccination required
Step 4: Training
- Complete online or in-person training with your assigned department

- Reliability and professionalism
- Adherence to hospital policies and confidentiality standards
Willingness to support patients, families, and staff respectfully
