Northfield Hospital + Clinics has hired Josh Salzman, MBA, MA as Chief Operating Officer.
Salzman is set to join NH+C on Monday, August 4 as part of the executive leadership team led by CEO Zander Abbott, MBA, FACHE. Salzman succeeds Tammy Hayes, RN, MS, CENP, LNHA in the COO role following her retirement in June.
Salzman comes to NH+C from HealthPartners/Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he was senior system director for Medical Specialties including gastroenterology, pulmonary/sleep, and retail CPAP services. In his 21 years at HealthPartners, Salzman served as a director in various service lines including emergency medical services, emergency medicine, medical critical care, and clinical research. His expertise includes:
- Strategic and operational planning
- Clinical operations
- Quality and process improvement
- Financial analysis
- Revenue cycle management / medical coding
Salzman earned his MBA (with an emphasis in healthcare) at St. Scholastica in Duluth and his MA in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota.
“Josh is a great fit for NH+C: He has a strong background in clinic and hospital operations, with 15+ years of experience in a variety of settings, from ED and Critical Care to ambulatory clinics and EMS,” says CEO Zander Abbott. “He brings ideas for NH+C to continue to grow and expand as we serve the needs of our communities. He has a strong commitment to independent rural healthcare that will serve NH+C well.”
“Being the health hub of the community is an important role,” Salzman says. “I want people to be able to get healthcare as close to home as they can.”
Salzman has been an involved in bringing services to smaller communities in the HealthPartners network in the St. Croix River Valley, including Hudson, New Richmond, and Amery in Wisconsin and Stillwater in Minnesota.
“I’m committed to maintaining and growing the local and regional presence NH+C has,” Salzman says. His breadth of experience across service lines can help strengthen NH+C’s current services, and identify where NH+C can expand and grow with new services that make sense for the region.
“I’m excited to get to know the community, and make sure we continue to solidify our presence as the place people want to go to get their care,” Salzman adds. “I want people to choose NH+C for their care due to the high quality and excellent experience they have come to expect.”
Salzman’s arrival solidifies the executive leadership team, whose expertise and energy builds on a legacy of strong leadership at NH+C. Abbott began as CEO in early 2025, alongside Chief Financial Officer Eric Guth and Chief Nursing Executive Lisa Bauer, DNP, MBA, RN, CNML, CLC, and Chief Medical Office Jeff Meland, MD.
