Tips for walking in the cold

Don’t be afraid to walk in the cold. 

Getting out in nature is good for your health and lifts your spirits. Set a goal to get outside a couple of times a week.

Here are some tips for how to dress.

  • Stay warm by dressing in layers. 
  • Make sure you have a good hat, wear warm gloves, and a neck/face shield or scarf
  • Get yourself some fleece lined pants
  • Wear long underwear
  • Keep your feet warm by wearing warm socks. Wool socks work great.
  • Wear hiking boots or winter boots
  • You may want to buy spike traction grips for the bottoms of your shoes
  • Consider getting hand and feet warmers to put in your gloves or boots

Too cold out? Many malls, grocery stores, big box stores and schools allow you to walk indoors. You can also march in place at home.
