Volunteer Program

Apply to Volunteer: 2026-2027 Academic Year
If you are a St. Olaf or Carleton College student interested in volunteering at Northfield Hospital + Clinics for the 2026–2027 academic year, applications are accepted through June 30.

⚠️ Application Deadline Notice

  • The student volunteer program is highly competitive
  • Applications received after June 30 will not be accepted
  • If you miss the deadline, please do not call to request an exception
  • First year students are not eligible — volunteering begins sophomore year

Eligibility Requirements

Student volunteers must:

  • Be a St. Olaf or Carleton sophomore or above
  • Commit to 2 hours per week
  • Complete 30 or more hours over the academic year
  • Be available for a full academic year commitment
  • Submit a complete application by June 30

Student Volunteer Application Process

Step 1: Apply Online

Before starting your application, gather and prepare all required documents.

Required uploads:

  • Resume
  • Letter of recommendation

File requirements:

  • Accepted formats: bmp, doc, docx, gif, jpeg, pdf, png, psd, tif
  • Maximum file size: 25 MB per upload

Step 2: Volunteer Interview

Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview. During the interview, you will discuss:

  • Why you are a good fit to volunteer at NH+C
  • Your schedule and availability
  • Your volunteer goals and interests

Step 3: Orientation & Screening

Once accepted and offered a volunteer role:

  • Attend an inperson, oncampus orientation in September 
    • Orientation date will be emailed to you

Complete required screenings:

  • Minnesota background check and fingerprinting
  • Volunteer Pre-Placement Health Evaluation with Employee Health Services, including: 
    • TB screening
    • Immunization review
    • Annual influenza vaccination required

Step 4: Training

  • Complete online or in-person training with your assigned department
