Cookies and IP Addresses

We collect information about visitors to our site using “cookies.”  A cookie is a small text file that is created when someone uses a browser to visit a web site.  Cookies are stored on the computer’s browser directory or program data subfolder.  This site uses cookies to help visitors navigate the site more successfully, improve your browsing experience and to provide information about visitors’ behavior that help us improve the site and our marketing programs.  A cookie may identify the computer that is being used to visit the site, but not who the visitor is.  If you do not want to have cookies placed on your computer, you can set your web browser to not accept them, or you can delete them manually.

Our web server also automatically collects the IP (for “Internet Protocol”) address of each computer that accesses our site.  An IP address is a series of numerals that is assigned to each computer that accesses the internet.  An IP address is not personal information because it identifies only the computer, not the person who is using it.  We use IP addresses in aggregate form to help us understand how our site is being used and how we can better serve visitors.

We occasionally survey visitors to our site.  The information from these surveys is used in aggregated, de-identified form to help us understand the needs of our visitors so that we can improve our site.  The information may be shared with third parties with whom we have a business relationship.  We generally do not ask for information in surveys that would personally identify you; if we do request contact information for follow-up, you may decline to provide it.  If survey respondents provide personal information (such as an email address) in a survey, it is shared only with those people who need to see it to respond to the question or request, or with third parties who perform data management services for our site.  Those third parties have agreed to keep all data from surveys confidential.
