Dr. Megan Shimota Dillman believes great medicine starts with a great conversation.

She’s known for being easygoing, approachable — and refreshingly real. In fact, one new patient told her she’d been referred by a men's golf team.

“All these men who hate going to the doctor recommended me?” Dr. Dillman recalls with a smile. The patient nodded. “They don’t mind coming to you because you’re easygoing and easy to talk to.”

For Dr. Shimota Dillman, that’s exactly the point.

“Sometimes it’s surprising how little people understand about their medical situation when you ask them to explain it back,” she says. “Conversation helps patients truly understand their health.”

And understanding leads to better decisions.

“I want to talk with you about your plans and what’s meaningful to you,” she explains. “Then when it’s time for a decision, we’re both clear about what matters most.”

Whole-Person Care, Practical Approach

As a board-certified internal medicine and pediatrics physician, Dr. Shimota Dillman specializes in managing complex conditions like diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Her philosophy: Focus on what you can control.

“I tell patients, ‘Look at what you can control.’ We approach the big picture with basic common sense.”

It’s a whole-person approach grounded in practicality — and partnership.

From Rural Roots to the Czech Republic

Dr. Shimota Dillman was born at Northfield Hospital and grew up in Prior Lake in a farming family. She was the first in her family to attend college — and then took her education even further.

Honoring her Czech heritage, she chose to attend medical school in the Czech Republic.

“My dad spoke only Czech until he was about five years old,” she says. “I grew up learning Czech vocabulary from my paternal grandparents. It was a lot of fun.”

While studying in Prague, she even rowed on the Vltava River. “I miss that,” she admits.

Today, she sees patients of all ages at NH+C’s Lakeville Clinic.
