Getting Back Your Balance and Movement - Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine
Physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapy assistants (PTAs) are educated, licensed health care professionals who help patients reduce pain and improve or restore movement and mobility - in many instances without expensive surgery and often reducing the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects. If you are impaired by your ability to move, a loss of balance, muscle pain, or some other physical ailment, physical therapy can help. Our team of physical therapists can teach you how to prevent or manage your condition so that you can achieve long-term health benefits. We evaluate each individual and develop a plan, using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, we work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.
Physical Therapy Services in the Hospital
We provide physical therapy services for patients hospitalized at Northfield Hospital. Hospital patients can experience numerous complications related to their medical conditions and/or the surgeries they have had. In many cases, early physical therapy focusing on movement, exercise, and mobility can reduce or eliminate some of these complications. Patients may benefit from physical therapy to regain the ability to walk, improve balance, move safely in their environment, and/or perform everyday activities like they did before their illness or surgery. Physical therapy in the hospital may include:
- Ambulation and gait training
- Adaptive equipment assessment and training
- Bed mobility and transfers
- Discharge planning and transition to home
- Education in post-surgical protocols and precautions
- Fall prevention
- Strengthening and reconditioning
Physical Therapy Services at Home
